Labrador x Poodle = Labradoodle The Labrador had been the most popular purebred dog in the United States for seventeen years running. Why? The Labrador is known for being gentle, intelligent and friendly. They have high levels of patience and are known for being good natured with children. Labradors are excellent companion dogs but are also highly popular as working dogs. It is a multi-talented, dependable and obedient breed. The coat type of the Labrador is called a haircoat and is known to be highly shedding. This is the Labrador’s downfall. This is where the poodle comes in. The coat is one of the most notable traits of the poodle. The poodle coat is minimally shedding, known as hypoallergenic and lacks an undercoat which is typical of most breeds. The poodle is known as one of the most intelligent breeds. It is an alert and active breed that is skillful in many working dog applications but who is also an exceptional companion dog. Both breeds are people oriented, eager to please, adaptable and easy to train.
